Games and digital
Games and digital rights let you use an anime property in video games, mobile apps, and other interactive or digital products. These are among the most complex and high-stakes licenses, because development is expensive and licensors care a lot about how their characters behave and speak.
Game rights can cover console and PC titles, mobile games, browser games, and smaller digital items like stickers, wallpapers, avatars, or in-game collaboration content. A popular format is the in-game collaboration (コラボ, korabo), where anime characters appear in an existing game for a limited time. These are often easier to arrange than building a new game from scratch.
What makes game deals different:
- Longer approvals. Licensors may review scripts, character models, voice lines, and gameplay.
- Voice actors and music may require separate permissions and fees.
- Revenue models such as free-to-play and in-app purchases need clear royalty definitions.
- Platform rules from app stores and console makers add another layer of requirements.
Digital products like NFTs or AI-generated content are sensitive areas; many rights holders decline them or have strict policies. Always ask before pitching.
